Buying and using
How the Essentials Pass works
Pick the days, settle the two slots, receive the pass. The rules in short.
- 1
Pick a start date and your slots
Choose 2, 3 or 4 days and the first day when you buy. The Colosseum and Vatican time slots are chosen in the same step. The Pantheon and the walking tour follow in any order within your days. - 2
Receive it by e-mail
The pass arrives as a digital pass with a QR code. Show it at each entrance, no exchange desk needed. - 3
Cancel before anything is used
Turbopass refunds the pass only while nothing has been used, no ticket issued and no slot reserved, minus its general handling fee. Less than 24 hours before the start day, no refund.
Weighing it up
What speaks against the Essentials Pass, and who it is for
Against it: if you only want the Colosseum and the Vatican Museums, two single tickets bought at the official ticket offices cost less than the pass. What the pass buys on top is the reservation of both time slots, the Pantheon and the walking tour. There is no hop-on hop-off bus, no public transport, no Castel Sant'Angelo and no St Peter's, and nothing can be added. The days run consecutively.
For whom: first-time visitors with two to four days who want the three must-sees in a single purchase, with the two compulsory time slots settled from the start and without paying for a bus they will not ride. Rome's centre is walkable between the Pantheon, the Forum and the Colosseum.
Alternatives: if you also want the bus, the boat and Castel Sant'Angelo, the City Pass is the broader package from the same issuer. If public transport matters more than the Vatican, the city's Roma Pass is the cheaper route. All six in the comparison.
FAQ
Questions about the Essentials Pass
Short answers for this pass, everything else on the FAQ page.
What is the difference to the Rome City Pass?+
The Essentials Pass has a fixed set of sights, the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums and the Pantheon, on 2 to 4 days. The City Pass adds Castel Sant'Angelo, the bus, the Tiber boat, Ostia Antica and more museums for 1 to 7 days, at a higher price.
Can I choose which sights to visit?+
No. The Essentials Pass has no choice mechanism. You choose only the number of days; the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums and the Pantheon are always included.
Is the hop-on hop-off bus included?+
No, and it cannot be added. If you want 48 hours of bus and a Tiber boat, the City Pass includes both.
