How the City Pass works
Chosen start date, digital delivery, two reserved time slots. The rules in short.

Pick a start date and your slots
Choose the number of days and the first day when you buy. The Colosseum and Vatican time slots are chosen in the same step and reserved by Turbopass; the other sights follow in any order. - 2
Receive it by e-mail
The pass arrives as a digital pass with a QR code. Show it at each entrance, no exchange desk needed. A transport ticket bought as an add-on is a paper ticket collected at a pick-up point. - 3
Cancel before anything is used
Turbopass refunds the pass only while nothing has been used, no ticket issued and no slot reserved, and keeps a special fee for the Rome City Pass that is higher than for its other passes. Less than 24 hours before the start day, no refund.
Weighing it up
What speaks against the City Pass, and who it is for
Against it: it is the most expensive pass in Rome, and the one-day version costs more than the two-day Essentials Pass with the same two core tickets, because on a single day you have to keep both reserved slots. The days run consecutively, so a rest day costs you validity. Public transport and the airport transfer are add-ons, not part of the pass, and the Galleria Borghese, the Capitoline Museums and the dome of St Peter's are not on the list. The starting price already includes the preselected Colosseum and Vatican tickets; removing them in the basket lowers the price but leaves you without either entry.
For whom: visitors who spend two to five days in Rome, want the Colosseum and the Vatican with the reservation done for them, will actually ride the bus and the boat and like to add Castel Sant'Angelo, the Pantheon and a trip to Ostia Antica. From the second day on, the bus, the boat and the castle are where the pass beats single tickets.

Do I have to visit the Colosseum and the Vatican on the first day?+
No. You choose a time slot for each of the two when you buy, on any day within your validity period. All other sights are visited in any order. For Castel Sant'Angelo and the Pantheon a time slot is recommended, not reserved for you.
Is the metro included?+
No. Turbopass sells an ATAC public transport ticket as an add-on, from 24 hours up to a week. It is a paper ticket collected at a pick-up point in Rome and valid from the first validation. More on the public transport page.
Do children pay less?+
Yes. Children from 6 to 9 and teenagers from 10 to 17 have their own rates, under 6 is free. Visitors under 18 enter the Colosseum free anyway but need a free ticket, and the pass delivers it with the reserved slot.
